Child Passenger Safety Tips
TIP 1:  Everybody needs a child safety seat, booster seat, or safety belt.  It is imperative to choose the seat that best fits your child and your vehicle.

TIP 2:  ALWAYS read the instructions that come with the child safety seat and the section on child safety seats in the vehicle owner’s manual.

TIP 3:  The back seat is the safest place in a crash.  Children age 12 and under should ride properly restrained in the back.  Infants riding rear-facing must NEVER be placed in front of an active air bag.

TIP 4:  Age birth to 1, up to 35 lbs., must use an Infant-only or Rear-facing Convertible seat.

TIP 5:  Age 1 to 4, over 20 lbs. and up to 40 lbs., must use a Convertible or Forward-Facing Only seat.

TIP 6:  Age 4 to 8, over 40 lbs., must use a Belt-Positioning Booster Seat, Backless Booster, or High-back Booster seat.

TIP 7:  ALL CHILDREN WHO HAVE OUTGROWN CHILD SAFETY SEATS SHOULD BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED IN BOOSTER SEATS, IN THE BACK, UNTIL THEY ARE AT LEAST 7 YRS. OLD, UNLESS THEY ARE 4’9” TALL AND OVER 60 LBS.

For more information or to make an appointment for a child safety seat inspection, please contact the Simsbury Police Department at 658-3100 ext. 4321.  Please install the seat before making your appointment.  We currently conduct seat inspections for Simsbury Residents ONLY.
