The Town of Simsbury has an active emergency response plan. Members of the Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services departments have been working with other town departments and local agencies in developing a town wide emergency response plan for both natural and man-made incidents.
The Town of Simsbury is a member of the Capital Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) along with 28 other municipalities in the Greater Hartford area. CRCOG's members collaborate on a number of issues including Emergency planning for our entire region. By working together with CRCOG and pooling resources the Town of Simsbury is better able to help keep our citizens safe along with assisting our neighboring communities.
While many local, State, and Federal agencies are engaged in activities aimed at preventing a major incident from occurring, it is important that we continue to prepare our families and our community for any type of disaster. Many citizens ask, "How do I prepare for a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Our advice is to prepare as you would for any severe storm where the power may be out for several days. By taking this approach families will be able to best care for themselves and their loved ones. A good place to get started with your planning is at the Federal Emergency Management Agency website, in the section titled, 'Are You Ready?'. The 'Are You Ready?' guides are available at Town Hall during normal business hours.
Take the time to educate yourself and your family. Should you need to contact the police department for a non emergency call please use the routine number at 658-3100. As always if you have an emergency dial 911. If you have specific questions regarding emergency preparedness please feel free to Contact Fire Marshall, Kevin Kowalski at 658-1971.
