Reminder: Number Your House
The Town of Simsbury would like to remind residents to post highly visible property numbers on your house and/or property. Property numbers that are highly visible will help to provide prompt services from the police, fire and ambulance departments, especially during an emergency. All members of public safety have experienced both the benefits of numbered properties and the delays and frustrations with not locating a property with ease. Please consider numbering your property with numbers that are visible from the street and are not less than 3 inches in height. Included is a copy of Town Ordinance Chapter 112 Numbering of Property. For details on numbering your property, click here to view the town ordinance on Property Numbering (Chapter 112 on page 84). Please contact Community Service Officer John Mimnaugh at 860-658-3131 if you have any questions.

The Police Department has 35 sworn officers augmented by 9 full-time and 3 part-time civilian personnel. The Department consists of two primary divisions: Patrol and Administrative Services. The Patrol Division provides around-the-clock immediate response to calls for service, while the Administrative Division provides all other support services. The Administrative Division consists of: Detective Unit, which is responsible for investigation of serious crime, Training Unit & Professional Standards, which is responsible for police training and accreditation activities, Community Services Unit, which is responsible for a variety of community and neighborhood services, including traffic surveys and public education, the Communications Unit, which is responsible for receiving and dispatching calls for service, and the Records Unit, which is
responsible for processing, collection and filing of all police and related reports.
The Department also employs a full-time Animal Control Officer who is responsible for enforcing all laws pertaining to dogs. In addition, the Animal Control Officer maintains up-to-date files on all dog licenses; ensures dogs are properly licensed; impounds stray dogs; and handles all animal bite cases.
