The Water Pollution Control Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of approximately 60 miles of pipe lines, five pumping stations as well as their facilities on Drake Hill. The treatment facility, located on Drake Hill Road, is a secondary aerobic wastewater treatment process. The Simsbury facility processes wastewater from Simsbury (75%), Avon (25%) and Granby (5%).
The Department's operating and maintenance budget is derived solely from user revenue. Annual user charges, compared to other Connecticut towns, is economical due to staff training, varied abilities and technical innovations. All staff members have completed training programs and are Department of Environmental Protection certified plant operators.
Tours of the facility are conducted throughout the year for school and environmental groups on an appointment basis. Information on connections, permits, or sewer line locations can be obtained by visiting the facility or calling (860) 658-1380.
