January 25, 2010
2010-2011 Budget:
The following budget workshops with the Board of Selectmen on the 2010-2011 Budget are as follows. One was held earlier tonight at 5 pm on General Government Departments. The public is invited to attend these workshops, which will be held in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room.
Tomorrow night, January 26th – 4:00 PM – Planning and Land Use, Public Works and Facilities Management, Sewer Use Fund and the Health District
Saturday, January 30th – 9 am – Noon – Library, Board of Education’s Capital Improvement Committee, Culture/Parks and Recreation and Simsbury Farms Fund
New Telephone System: This year, the Town is investing in a new telephone system for better communications with the public. Three proposals were submitted on Friday. Staff will be reviewing these proposals and interviewing firms that qualify for this work. A new system should be in place by May.
Recreational Programs for Children with Autism: The Culture, Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with the CT Music Therapy Services, is offering a new music therapy program for children with autism and related special needs. The program will be offered Saturday mornings beginning March 13 and registration is now being taken. For more information, please go to the Culture, Parks and Recreation web site or call 860-658-3255.
Regional Building Permitting System: An on-site demonstration of the new Regional Building Permitting System was held in Simsbury last week with staff members of the Capital Region Council of Governments, ViewPoint (the vendor) and members of the Town’s Building Inspections staff. Once in place, this system will allow contractors and home owners to apply for and monitor their building permits. Because this system will be on a regional basis, other Towns will have similar systems, making it easier to conduct business in the region.
Senior Survey: At the last Board of Selectmen’s meeting, the results of a Senior Survey were given to the Board members and the public. Attached you will find a response from Kathleen Marschall, Senior Center Coordinator, in response to some of the deficiencies that the survey results pointed out. (See attachment above)
