FIRST SELECTMAN’S REPORT
March 8, 2010
New Telephone System: A vendor for the Town’s new telephone system has been chosen. Valley Communications, Inc. is the vendor who will have the system in place by late April with full operations in early May. We had $65,000 set aside for the project and Valley’s cost will be $46,334.52. This will include a new voice recording system for the Police Department. Their proposal also includes a 5 year warranty. A copy of the proposals is attached with a cover memorandum from Town Engineer Richard Sawitzke.
Regional Building Permit System and Health Department System: These two regional software systems, being coordinated by CRCOG, are getting closer to implementation with the thought of launching them this summer. When these two projects are successfully completed, it is hoped that the next regional step would be in the area of economic development.
Public Service Award Ceremony: The Town of Simsbury and the Secretary of State’s Office will be honoring World War II veterans on Monday, March 22, at 2 pm at Westminster School’s Centennial Theater. The veterans will be honored for their exemplary service and unwavering courage. All veterans should have received an invitation from the Secretary of State’s Office. If you or your family member did not receive an invitation, please call Simsbury Town Hall at 860-658-3200.
Planned Area of Development: The Public Hearing on the PAD regulations will be held on March 15 at 7 pm. The location for this meeting is Eno Memorial Hall Auditorium.
Street Sweeping: Because of the new mixture that has been used this year for snow removal on the roads, we are asking that residents do not sweep any debris from their lawn or sidewalks into the roadway. This was allowed in the past. The Highway Department will only need to do a light sweeping of the roads and the process will be very quick. This will also save the Town a lot of money. Again, this is due to the new treatment method being used for snow removal. If you have questions, please call 860-658-3222.
Simsbury Land Trust Event: On March 17th, the Simsbury Land Trust and the Town’s “Gifford’s Green Conversations” will co-host “Chemical Free Lawns”, a free forum that will explore the dangers of synthetic lawn chemicals. The program will also tell people how to make their own lawns “green” – naturally. This will be at 7 pm at the Simsbury Farm Apple Barn on Old Farms Road. To reserve space, call 860-651-8773.
