Simsbury Swap Shoppe
Simsbury's Recycling Committee is a sub-committee of the Board of Selectmen and runs coterminus with the term of the Board of Selectmen. The Board of Selectmen appoints committee members for one-year terms expiring annually on December 31. We are all volunteers who are committed to a clean environment through education and continued efforts in limiting the amount of disposable items going into the waste stream.
We meet at 7:30 PM on the fourth Thursday of every month except January and November which, is on the third Thursday. We do not meet in the months of July, August and December. Our meetings are held in the main meeting room at Simsbury Town Hall. The public is invited to our meetings and encourage those interested in joining our committee to please contact us by email. Below are the links for the committee members email.
Since 1997, we have annually bestowed Recycling Awards on worthy Simsbury businesses, individuals and community groups. We present these awards at the Board of Selectmen's meeting that falls closest to America Recycles Day, November 15. Currently, we are involved in the following projects:
* Manage our Web Site as a recycling/reuse information clearinghouse for town residents
* Supporting public school recycling initiatives, for example, placement of composting equipment, paper-collection bins, cans and bottles collection
* Opened our first Swap Center on September 7, 2002, where useful items in good condition are available free to town residents. The Center is located at the Simsbury Transfer Station off Wolcott Road. Click here for more information on our Swap Center.
For more information on recycling, please be sure to view our Recyclopedia.
If you have questions on recycling, please contact one of our Committee members.
