Minutes: The minutes of the November meeting were accepted.
First Selectman Meeting: In response to a request to Tom West from the office of the First Selectman, a meeting was held on 1/3/08 to discuss this committee's plans for the next two years. A summary prepared for this briefing was distributed to the committee. Basically, this briefing summarized the projects completed since 1999 and our current two year focus i.e. access road and maintenance facilities
Six Year Capital Plan: A detailed plan was presented by Gerry Toner. This proposed plan requests $225k for the access road in FY 08-09 with a follow on expenditure of $1.25m in FY 09-10 for the Parks/Golf maintenance facility. In addition, $ 75k was requested in FY 09-10 for architectural services, $4M in FY 10-11 for the Main Bldg renovation, $720k in FY11-12 for Memorial Park, $450k in FY 12-13 for Golf and $550k in FY13-14 for Parks. The Committee voted to accept the six year plan as presented.
Maintenance Facility: The sub committee summarized progress to date. It appears centralization is a viable approach. The new facility would be situated in an area between the present golf maintenance facility and the #5 fairway. This area provides adequate space, is easily accessible and accommodates the required septic fields. The Committee agreed with these preliminary recommendations. As proposed by Gerry Post, the next step will involve a visit/tour of the new Caldwell bldg. to further define scope and cost of the new facility. All members of the Committee are invited to participate.
GPS Golf Carts: A proposal was submitted by "Ranger Plus" to install GPS on sixty golf carts. The charge for this installation and course mapping was approx $117k. The basic marketing concept behind this business is not the sale of the GPS equipment, but the sale of advertising on the GPS monitor. To finance this venture, it would be necessary to raise all golf cart rentals $1 and also rely on a minimum income ($4k/yr) from advertising to break even. Since 80% of the rounds played are residents, it was agreed that there was not an urgent need for GPS/carts today but we do need to stay abreast of this evolving technology for future consideration. Dave Dell volunteered to research Golf Cart/GPS at the PGA Show he will be attending in Fla.
