Memorial Day program collects care packages for troops
Tariffville residents Beth & Glenn Gerber are kicking off a special campaign on behalf of the Simsbury men & women who currently serve the nation in the armed forces.
Inspired by their nephew who is serving in Afghanistan, they are sponsoring a drive that collects care packages for the troops. The collection will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th, with collection boxes being placed at the Tariffville Firehouse and Eno Memorial Hall.
Residents can drop off their donations immediately after the parades.
The Tariffville parade begins at 9:00 a.m. The Simsbury parade begins at 1:30 p.m.
The following items are recommended for the troops:
Coffee-pre-sweetened powdered Kool-Aid-Gatorade-hot chocolate-protein bars-beef jerky/slim jims-canned fruit-dried fruit-fruit snacks-canned soup-ravioli-stew-Cup A Soup-Raman noodles-Dinty Moore-trail mix-nuts-sunflower seeds-pre-packaged cookies-hard candy/gum-easy mac & cheese-microwave popcorn-canned tuna-peanut butter /jelly (no glass jars)-small boxes of crackers-batteries-twin sheet sets-pillow cases-travel size pillows-wash cloths and bath towels-new or good condition books-magazines-puzzle books/puzzles-deodorant (men or women)-shaving cream-foot powder-socks-odor eaters-small size shampoos/conditioners-mouthwash-floss-lip balm-toothpaste-toothbrushes-mosquito repellant-sun block lotion.
For those who cannot bring their donations on Memorial Day, the boxes will be kept at Eno Memorial Hall & Simsbury Town Hall until Monday, June 2nd for drop-off.
