The Simsbury Water Pollution Control Facility is having an Open House for the public on Saturday, May 10, from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. The facility has just completed a $26 million renovation.  Tours of the facility and a fact sheet explaining the details of the water pollution control process, its importance to the Town and the environment, will be provided. The facility processes wastewater received via the sanitary sewer systems in Simsbury, Granby and parts of Avon. Biological and physical processes are used to treat the water prior to discharge into the Farmington River.

The renovation was required by CT DEP to reduce the amount of nitrogen being discharged into the Farmington River.  The previous effluent contained forms of nitrogen that can be toxic to aquatic organisms and produce excessive plant growth in the Farmington River and ultimately Long Island Sound.

Other friends of the Farmington River and environment will participate with informational displays, including the Farmington River Watershed Association, Farmington Valley Trails Council, Huck Finn Adventures, Simsbury Land Trust, Simsbury Main Street Partnership and Paine's Inc.
