Dear Resident:
It has come to the town’s attention that many residents are concerned over the current construction of the new water main in your neighborhood and the condition of the roadway paving. We are sending this letter to clarify the construction process and layout the work that will be occurring in your neighborhood over the next 12 to 18 months.
The contractor performing the installation of the new water main will provide a “permanent patch” over the areas of the roadway that have been disturbed by the water main installation. This permanent patch will have smooth straight edges that will meet up with the existing pavement. The new pavement/patch will be a darker color than the existing pavement.
Within the next 12 to 18 months, the town will be repaving the entire roadway on Berkshire, County and Litchfield Roads. Waiting until next spring before paving will allow for any settlements that may result from the new water main construction to occur before the town paves. During this time, the town will be working with other utilities that may have a need to improve their facilities located in your neighborhood. We want to be sure that any utility construction work requiring street excavation is completed well in advance of the town’s paving work.
I understand this work is disruptive to the neighborhood and want to reassure all residents that the town is working to minimize disruptions and reduce costs. If you should have any questions concerning the paving of your roadway, please call me at (860) 658-3222.
Sincerely,
Thomas J. Roy, P.E.
