Probate Court Redistricting Approved
Town of Simsbury
Press Release
September 25, 2009

The House and Senate have adopted Bill No. 7001 “An Act Concerning the Recommendations of the Probate Redistricting Commission.” Under the bill, Simsbury will be included with Canton, Granby and Avon in a Probate District.  Originally, the Redistricting Commission had recommended the formation of a district that would have included Simsbury with Canton, Avon, Burlington, Farmington and Granby.  Such a configuration would have resulted in the creation of one of the largest districts in the state serving a population of over 100,000.  The Towns of the Farmington Valley were unanimously opposed to such a mega-district.

First Selectman Mary Glassman stated that “We are thrilled that the legislature has heard our concerns and has adopted a configuration that the Towns of Simsbury, Avon, Canton and Granby unanimously support.”  The legislation becomes effective January 5, 2011.
