Simsbury Public Works Department and the Simsbury Police Department have issued a reminder to motorists that, in accordance with Town Ordinance Article I, 149-2, A., it is illegal to park on any street or road within the jurisdiction of the town of Simsbury while snow removal operations are in progress. Normal snow removal operations continue 12 hours after the cessation of snowfall.
Vehicles that violate that ban may be towed and impounded at the owner's expense. Owners of vehicles in violation of the Town Ordinance may also be subject to a fine.
In addition, the Public Works Department and the Police Department remind residents that according to Town Ordinance Article I, 137-1, C., it is illegal for them or private contractors to plow snow from their driveways across a public road, and also asked that they remove trash receptacles from the side of the road during snowstorms to avoid their being struck by a snowplow. Please do not allow children to build snow forts near the road, nor should they be playing near the road during snow removal procedures. Large trucks do have blind spots and a child playing near the edge of the road is in a precarious situation. Allowing children to play by the edge of the road could put them in a potentially dangerous situation. In addition, automobile operators should also be aware of truck blind spots. Please give the
plow drivers plenty of room to negotiate especially on curves, cul-de-sacs, and intersections when truck backing is more prevalent. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
