WHO WE ARE … WHAT WE DO
Water Pollution Control is the wastewater (sewage) treatment operation for the Town. We are responsible for over 70 miles of pipes, five pumping stations at various locations around town, and the waste water treatment facility on Drake Hill Road where physical and biological processes are used to remove harmful levels of, organics, chemicals, and other substances before being released into the Farmington River. Wastewater from Granby and portions of Avon are also received for treatment, as is septage from local septic tanks.
The Department’s operating and maintenance budget is derived solely from user revenue.
Tours of the facility are conducted throughout the year for school and environmental groups on an appointment basis.
IF YOU HAVE A PLUMBING BLOCKAGE
The water leaving your property through sinks, toilets and drains is wastewater that goes into a public or private sewage system. If you have a problem with blockage, and are connected to the sewer system, please call us at the facility, 658-1380 so we can determine the location and extent of the blockage. The pipes inside a building and the laterals leading from the building to connect with the main sewer line are the property owner’s responsibility to maintain. Any repairs to the lateral must be performed by a licensed drainlayer. The main sewer line is maintained by the Town.
If you are connected to the public sewer system and your plumber determines you have a sewer emergency during the evening or on a weekend, call the Police Department at 658-3100, and they will contact the appropriate personnel.
Additional information on blockages can be obtained here on the Farmington Valley Health Website.
If you have a problem with the water supply to your property, contact the water company that supplies your property. (see Water Company links above)
ARE YOU CONNECTED?
Not all properties in Simsbury are connected to the public sewer system.. Septic systems are serviced by private companies, not the Town, and fall under the jurisdiction of the Farmington Valley Health District, and you need to contact them in the event of a problem your plumber cannot repair. If you are uncertain if your property is connected, please call us at 658-1380.
Information of whether a property is within the sewer service area and has access to the sewer system can be obtained by calling the Facility at 658-1380.
