EDC Mission

The Simsbury Economic Development Commission's goal is to facilitate the expansion of the commercial tax, consistent with the character of the Town, through maintenance and growth of existing businesses and attraction of comparable new businesses.

What is Simsbury Looking For?

Simsbury is a high value community.  Quality of life is a chief attraction for people looking to move to Simsbury and a key reason current citizens stay-as well as our strongest asset for retaining and attracting businesses.

Over the last several years the Town of Simsbury made a concentrated and successful effort forge a common vision for downtown development through a "Charette" process. Over a period of several days in 2009, concerned citizens worked with professional staff and urban planners to develop a framework of how development could evolve over the years to come. That was the origin for the Simsbury Center Code, which is a form based zoning code.

Business Incentive Program

In an ongoing effort to attract, retain and expand local businesses, the Town of Simsbury has adopted an incentive and abatement program.  Created in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes 12-65b and 12-65h, the program allows the Town to enter into written agreements with owners and/or lessees of certain real property where targeted businesses are located or could be properly located in accordance with adopted plans in certain locations in Simsbury.

The Simsbury Business Incentive Program may offer assistance tax abatement, waiving or reduction of Town permit fees and/or rebating of public infrastructure expenses. These programs are narrowly focused and are addressed on a case-by-case bases by the Business Development Committee. The decision to approve a request for tax abatement or any benefit described in the Policy is within the soled and exclusive discretion of the Simsbury Board of Selectman.  The filing of an application under this Policy or any recommendation of the Business Development Committee or any other Town Agency is not binding on the Board of Selectmen and creates no rights for the applicant or any obligation for the Town.

For more in details regarding the Policy please contact the Town Planner, the First Selectman’s office or click here.

How We Work

The commission has nine appointed members whose regularly scheduled meetings fall on the second Thursday of each month. The commission is advisory in nature, yet will advocate for the approval of commercial development projects that will augment the commercial tax base. We strongly encourage developers to present the scope of their projects to the commission in the early phases of application.
