Bicycle Assistance Station Installed Near Rotary Park

So, you are on a bike ride and you notice your brakes need an adjustment, or your tire is a bit flat.

What to do?

Well, now, in the area of the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows you will have help. A bicycle assistance station has been installed near Rotary Park on Iron Horse Boulevard, right along the bike path. The town’s department of Culture, Parks and Recreation installed the stand the week of Aug 25.

The stand, called a Dero Fixit, was purchased by the Simsbury Police Department at a cost of $1,297 as a way to give back to the bicycle community. PFC Tracy Dunne said the department saw the value in having the station.

“It benefits everybody,” said Dunne, who is also part of the bicycle patrol unit.

“Simsbury is proud to be a bike friendly community and proud of our partnership with our volunteers, and this will help make Simsbury an even better place to ride,” said First Selectman Mary Glassman.

According to company literature, the Fixit includes all the tools necessary to perform basic repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools and air pump are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel cables and tamper-proof fasteners. Hanging the bike from the hanger arms allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments. The stand is about five feet tall. There is no cost to use the station.

“For the thousands who bike the Greenway, this is a great addition,” said Gerard G. Toner, director of the Simsbury Culture, Parks and Recreation Department.
