Car Breaks/ Stolen Motor Vehicle

Simsbury, CT May 16, 2017

On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at 01:30 AM, a Simsbury Police Officer observed two suspicious vehicles traveling on Hopmeadow Street.  This officer observed these vehicles pull into 971 Hopmeadow Street (parking lot of a condominium complex).  The officer went to investigate and found several young males rummaging through parked vehicles.   Upon seeing the officer these males got into two vehicles and fled the scene.  The officer attempted to stop these vehicles and was unsuccessful.  Another Simsbury Police Officer was north of the incident and set up stop sticks.  One of the vehicles went over the stop sticks and it deflated the tires.  This vehicle was found over the town line in Granby.  The occupants fled the area into the woods.   It was later determined that this vehicle was stolen from Simsbury earlier in the night.

During the investigation officers found that several unlocked vehicles were rummaged through and items stolen.  Residents are reminded to keep their vehicles locked and to not keep valuables inside of their vehicles.

The Simsbury Police Department is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Detective Scott Sagan at 860-658-3145.
