Come See the Harlem Rockets at Simsbury High School on May 10th!

Event Hosted by Community for Care

The Harlem Rockets are coming to Simsbury to help spread the word about the benefits of healthy activities for people of all ages.  The event is being sponsored by The Community for Care which strives to educate teens and their parents about the risks of drug and alcohol use and the availability of healthy alternatives for fun.  The Rockets will take on the Simsbury Dream Team – players to be named later! – on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Simsbury High School.  The evening will feature basketball, fun, and information about community health resources in Simsbury.

“This is a wonderful community event for an important cause,” said Community for Care Board Co-Chair and Simsbury Selectwoman Cheryl Cook.  “Community for Care is committed to educating students and parents about the very real risks and consequences of drug use – this event gives us the opportunity to remind people that there are safe ways for kids to have a really good time.”  Cook was joined by Pastor and Board Co-Chair Woody Eddins, who stressed that “in the face of an opioid use epidemic, Community for Care’s mission is more important than ever, and having the Harlem Rockets in town helps us to reach our most important audience.”

Other participants at the May 10th event include Journey of Yoga, The Family Resource Development Center, The Emergency Mobile Psych Service, CASAC (Capital Area Substance Abuse Counsel) and Rushford (a Hartford Healthcare Partner providing addiction and mental health services).

There is a suggested donation of $2.00 per person or a nonperishable food item at the door.  Kids under 5 are free!
