The Town of Simsbury has launched its publicly available Geographic Information System (GIS). GIS provides georeferenced information via the internet to the public including:

  • parcel information
  • property ownership
  • historical documentation of various properties
  • natural resource information
  • floodplain information and other information pertinent to land use

This information can be printed remotely on standard size paper.

“I would like to thank town staff, and in particular our Town Engineer, Jeff Shea, who has been heading up this project, for their excellent work in assembling and scrubbing the huge volume of data that supports this system,” said First Selectman Lisa Heavner.

The GIS includes thematic maps that may be of interest to the public including:

  • zoning,
  • assessor's tax maps
  • land Use
  • open Space and others

This information helps provide the public with material to aid in a wide range of community input on planning and land use matters.

Because the underlying data is subject to change, GIS should be used as a guide but is not necessarily 100 percent accurate. A “Report Issues” function is available to pose questions or comments on the information provided on the GIS system. Homeowners, developers and businesses should continue to consult with town staff prior to initiating construction projects.
