Simsbury Establishments Win as Part of the Farmington Valley Visitors Association Awards

The Farmington Valley Visitors Association (FVVA), a non-profit public/private partnership that promotes the Farmington Valley as a destination for tourists, held its first-ever EF-VEE Awards given out to mark the association’s 20th anniversary year. The awards were given out Sept. 15 at the group’s annual meeting at Farmington Gardens.

The winners include:

Outdoor Adventure: tie between Heublein Tower and Farmington Valley Trails Council (both multiple towns)

Children’s Activities: tie between Farmington Miniature Golf & Ice Cream Parlor (Farmington) and Roaring Brook Nature Center (Canton)
Historic Sites/Museums: tie between Canton Historical Museum (Canton) and Hill-Stead Museum (Farmington)
Antiques: tie between Antiques on the Farmington (Collinsville) and The Salmon Brook Shops (Granby)

FVVA, now has over 200 members, including eight towns and their chambers of commerce, (Avon, Burlington, Canton, East Granby, Farmington, Granby, New Hartford and Simsbury), recreational sites, historic sites, farms, lodgings, restaurants, shopping malls, specialty shops, art galleries, antique shops, and local businesses dedicated to assisting residents, and helping families relocate to the valley.

FVVA opened a tourism office in Avon in 1998 and then created a website. The office greets over 125 visitors a month, receives over 10,000 requests for information via telephone, card, letter and readers responses from advertisement publications each year, and distributes 60,000 copies of its Visitors Guide to all 50 states and approximately 27 foreign countries. The website receives approximately 6,000 to 7,000 hits per month.
