Simsbury Receives Main Street Investment Fund Grant of $460,760 for Hopmeadow Street

“Streetscape” Improvements

October 17, 2016 -- On October 14, 2016 the Town of Simsbury was notified by Department of Housing Commissioner Evonne Klein that Simsbury is being awarded a Main Street Investment Fund grant in the amount of $460,760 to improve the town’s commercial center. The grant will be used to advance the town’s plan for streetscape improvements along Hopmeadow Street, including installation of paver sidewalks, ornamental pedestrian lighting and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk ramps.

According to First Selectman Lisa Heavner, this streetscape project is part of a larger and more comprehensive plan of developing “Complete Streets” which promote policies and practices that ensure streets are safe for people of all ages and abilities, balance the needs of different modes of transportation, and support local land uses, economies, cultures and natural environment.  “These improvements will advance the goals of the Town Center Charrette,” Heavner said, “providing a much needed infrastructure in the core commercial center of Simsbury, supporting a culture of positive public investment essential to existing businesses and prospective businesses, and serving as a catalyst for economic development.”  Heavner thanked Commissioner Klein, the Simsbury Board of Selectmen, Senator Kevin Witkos and Representative John Hampton for supporting the project, as well as town staff and the Main Street Partnership for their work in preparing and submitting the application.
