Town of Simsbury Retains Designation as a HEARTSafe Community

February 28, 2017 – Thanks to Paramedic Karin Stewart, the Town of Simsbury received a renewal of its designation as a HEARTSafe Community, affirming that the Town of Simsbury has taken steps to increase the likelihood that individuals suffering a sudden cardiac arrest will survive due to rapid access to life-saving treatment, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

The designation is provided to communities in which CPR training is provided; the public has access to defibrillation through strategic placement of AEDs for use by public safety professionals and other trained community members; first responders have been trained and equipped for CPR and AED use.  “We are grateful to Karin and to all of those who have helped to make the Town of Simsbury that much safer,” said First Selectwoman Lisa Heavner.

Simsbury received its original designation as a HEARTSafe community three years ago.
