Winter Storm Approaching Simsbury for Tuesday, March 14th – Residents Urged to Prepare in Advance and to Avoid Travel if Possible

STORM PREPARATION:

Town of Simsbury emergency personnel continue to monitor a Nor’easter that could result in snow accumulations of up to 22 inches beginning early Tuesday morning and lasting throughout the day.  “Town residents should stay off the roads if possible,” said First Selectwoman Lisa Heavner.  The Winter Storm Warning issued for Simsbury includes high winds with gusts up to 45-55 mph.  Residents should secure supplies such as food, gasoline for vehicles, cash, generators, snow removal equipment and home heating fuel, water, medicines and batteries in advance of the storm.  For more information about preparing for a storm, please visit the Town of Simsbury’s website at:

PARKING BAN:

The Town of Simsbury is implementing a parking ban on town streets effective midnight tonight, Monday, March 13th.  The parking ban will remain in place until further notice to ensure that town snow plows are able to remove snow. 

OUTAGE INFORMATION:

      Residents are urged to contact Eversource at (800) 286-2000 if they lose power during the storm, or on the Eversource website at www.eversource.com.   Remember that Eversource will not know about a power outage unless it has been called in.  Eversource customers are also encouraged to sign up to receive storm outage updates on the channel of their choice (text, email, phone call) at www.eversource.com.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION:

In order to receive information in the event of an emergency, residents should sign up for the Town of Simsbury’s “News and Announcements,” its “Community Alerts” and the State-wide emergency alert system, “CT Alert.”  You can sign up by visiting the Town of Simsbury’s website at www.simsbury-ct.gov/alerts.

CLEARING HYDRANTS:

Finally, in order to ensure that fire department personnel can respond in the event of an emergency, residents are asked to clear snow away from fire hydrants after the storm has abated.
