2017 Citizens Police Academy

Chief Peter N. Ingvertsen wishes to invite Simsbury residents and business owners, who are age 21 and older, to participate in the 17th annual Citizens’ Police Academy.  The academy will begin February 16th, 2017 and end April 20th, 2017.  Class will be held on Thursday evenings at the Simsbury Police Department from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

The goal of the Citizens’ Police Academy is to promote a positive relationship between the Simsbury Police Department and the community through education and hands-on learning.  The academy also allows the police department to gain feedback and use these ideas to make the department more responsive to our community’s needs.

The academy will meet once per week for 10 weeks for classroom instruction and practical demonstrations.  Additionally, each student will have the opportunity to ride along with a patrol officer and sit in with a dispatcher as they perform their duties.

Some of the subjects that will be discussed are: patrol and arrest procedures, search and seizure, crime scene investigations, firearms, emergency services teams, accident investigation and much more!

Those interested may obtain applications from the link on this site or they may be picked up at the Simsbury Police Department (933 Hopmeadow Street.)  Please submit applications to the attention of Community Services Officer, Lauren Devin.  Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and be Simsbury residents or business owners.  Some exceptions may be made.  All applications are due February 2nd, 2017.
