Recent Thefts From Vehicles - Commercial Parking Lots

Simsbury, CT February 24, 2014

The Simsbury Police Department is actively investigating thefts from vehicles parked in commercial lots on Hopmeadow Street (Route 10) and at Simsbury Commons (530 Bushy Hill Road).  The thefts occurred within the last month in the parking lots of Abigail’s Restaurant, Asian Meadow and Simsbury Commons (between Hoyt’s Cinema and Bed, Bath and Beyond).  The items taken from the vehicles were in plain view from outside of the vehicle between 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM.  Items taken were purses, handbags and their contents, cell phone and GPS units.  Entrance was gained into locked vehicles by breaking a window.  Some vehicles were left unlocked.

Similar incidents have been reported to the Avon Police Department during this same time frame in commercial parking lots along Route 44.

As a reminder, we suggest that everyone takes general precautions.  For instance, do not leave valuables in your vehicles, lock your vehicles, park in well lit areas and be vigilant in regards to your surroundings.

If you have any information in reference to these thefts, please contact Detective Sergeant Thomas Sheehan at (860) 658-3140.
