 Meeting Minutes

March 8, 2017

Call to Order at 5:45pm.

Cheryl Cook, Selectman and Co-Chair of the Community for Care Committee called the meeting to order at 5:45pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2017.  The meeting was held in the Program Room of the Simsbury Public Library.  Also in attendance were Pastor Woody Eddins, Co-Chair of the Community for Care Committee, Sue Homrok-Lemke, Assistant Superintendent; Mickey Lecours-Beck, Director of Social Services, Richard Holden, Andrew O’Brien, Principal, Simsbury High School, Sally Reiger, Lisa Gray, Sarah Gwinn, Tom Steen, Marc Lehman, Becky Rosenthal, Judy Sturgis, Lt. Fred Sifodaskalakis and Akash Kaza were also present.

Pledge of Allegiance was not recited.

Public Audience: There was no comment from members of the public present.

New Business:

The Committee discussed the content for the May 10th Community for Care Program.  Many suggestions were put forward and the Committee formed a consensus around providing a positive message of alternatives to drug and alcohol use.

Mr. O’Brien suggested a program at the High School for students and parents centered on different aspects of mental and physical well-being.

Ms. Lecours-Beck suggested that a program providing a positive anti-drug message might be funded by grant money and several suggestions were debated by the Committee.

The Committee decided to explore presenting a program featuring the Harlem Rockets and community resource providers.

The Committee discussed possible content for this program to be held on May 10, 2017.

The Committee thanked the members of the panel for the Program held following the meeting, “Legal, Safe? Not Your Grandma’s Marijuana”

Adjournment: Ms. Homrok-Lemke made a motion to Adjourn at 6:25pm.  Pastor Eddins seconded the motion. All were in favor.
