 Meeting Minutes

September 14, 2016

Call to Order at 5:15pm.

Cheryl Cook, Selectman and Co-Chair of the Community for Care Committee, called the meeting to order at 5:15pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.  The meeting was held in the Wagner Room of the Simsbury Public Library.  Also in attendance were Pastor Woody Eddins, Co-Chair of the Community for Care Committee; Chris Kelly, Board of Selectmen; Sue Homrok-Lemke, Assistant Superintendent; Mickey Lecours-Beck, Director of Social Services; Lt. Fred Sifodaskalakis, Simsbury Police Department; Andrew O’Brien, Principal, Simsbury High School; Brian White, Principal, Henry James Middle School;  Richard Holden; Becky Rosenthal;  Judy Sturgis; and  Akash Kaza were also present.

Pledge of Allegiance was not recited.

Public Audience: Rev. Chris Dion spoke regarding her interest in learning more about the Community for Care.  Jane Kimball spoke regarding her interest in joining the committee.

New Business:

The committee discussed the 2016-2017 meeting schedule.  After discussion, the committee voted to approve the following regular meetings:

Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

Wednesday, March 8, 2017

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

After discussion, the committee voted to change the time of the above named regular meetings to 5:45pm.  The programs following the meetings will begin at 6:30pm.

A discussion regarding the content of upcoming programs was discussed.  The committee decided to survey different demographic groups in town regarding their program preferences.  Ms. Rosenthal and Mr. White will survey the Middle School; Akash Kaza and Mr. O’Brien will develop questions and survey Simsbury High School.  Ms. Homrock Lempke, Mr. Kelly and Ms. Cook will develop questions for the town wide website.  Ms. Lecours-LeBeck will survey the Senior Center.

Mr. Kelly reported on the status of the links on the Community for Care website page.  He will discuss those that are not functioning or obsolete with the IT Department.

Mr. Holden reported to the Committee about a movie he recommends called “Generation Found” regarding the recovery process for high school students.  He provided information to the Committee for viewing.

Adjournment: Mr. Kelly made a motion to Adjourn at 5:57pm.  Ms. Cook seconded the motion. All were in favor.
