George McGregor Selected as Town of Simsbury’s Director of Planning and Community Development

At a meeting on Monday, March 14, 2022 the Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to appoint George McGregor to serve as the Town of Simsbury’s next Director of Planning and Community Development. “We are thrilled to appoint George as our next Director of Planning and Community Development,” said Town Manager Maria Capriola. “His expertise and passion for municipal planning, along with the high level of professionalism and integrity that he demonstrated during the recruitment process, made him stand out in a competitive pool of applicants.”

Mr. McGregor currently serves as the Town Planner for the Town of Vernon, and previously served as the Planning Director for the Sumter City-County Planning Department in Sumter, South Carolina. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University and a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from Clemson University.  Mr. McGregor is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners. He has been serving in the planning field for over 25 years.

“The Board of Selectmen is looking forward to having George join our team as the new Planning Director,” said First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis. “He brings with him a wide range of experience and dedication to municipal planning that will serve him well working with our various boards, commissions and the public.”

According to the Town Charter, the Town Manager is responsible for appointing the Director of Planning and Community Development with the approval of the Board of Selectmen.  Mr. McGregor will assume the role of Director of Planning and Community Development effective April 11, 2022.
