Simsbury Sewer Lining Project

The Town of Simsbury Water Pollution Control (WPC) has contracted with Granite Inliner LLC to perform sanitary sewer rehabilitation for existing sewers in Tariffville.  This work will be performed during the next several months and will utilize a “cured-in place” technology that allows the existing sanitary sewer pipes to be repaired without any excavation work.

The Process:

Each home and business will be notified with a door hanger a few days prior to the start of work.

The repair/lining work is an entirely “trenchless” process, which will minimize root and water infiltration problems and effectively create a new pipe inside of the existing pipe.  This will extend the life of the sewer pipe by 50 years and reduce our operation and maintenance costs.

The first step in the process is a high pressure cleaning of the existing pipeline.  During this time, if a home or a business has defective plumbing, backwash from the cleaning process could be directed into your home or business through a plumbing fixture (toilet, sink, etc.).  This is a relatively rare occurrence, but, should this happen, please call the WPCA at (860) 658-3258.

Next the liner will be inserted into the existing sanitary sewer pipe through manholes located in the street. The liner will then be “cured-in-place” with steam to form a pipe within a pipe.  During this process, individual home sanitary sewer service will interrupted for up to an eight (8) hour period.

It is critical that during this eight (8) hour period that water use be minimized.  We ask that homes eliminate activities such as laundry, dishwashing, and showers during the time specified for construction. You may flush your toilet when necessary.   We simply ask that you minimize your water usage.

Sump pumps that are connected to sanitary sewers must be disconnected and discharged elsewhere to avoid damaging the liner during installation and causing a sewer backup in the basement. The Town code of Simsbury prevents the discharge of sump pumps to the sanitary sewer.  Failure to follow these instructions may cause a sewer backup in the home or business. Please remember that the water will not be turned off, but the wastewater leaving your home or business will be limited.

The product does create an odor (glue or fiberglass odor) that may get into the building through improper or clogged venting, dry traps, or, in some older homes, floor drains that are connected to the sanitary sewer.  If you detect an odor, please ventilate your home by opening a window. The odor is not harmful and will dissipate quickly. Please contact the phone numbers below should you have any questions or concerns.
