REVISED: Town Update on COVID-19

Town and Board of Education staff, along with our local emergency management officials, have been keeping in regular contact with the Farmington Valley Health District regarding the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19).  While the risk to the general public of developing COVID-19 is still low, there are precautions that everyone should take to keep themselves healthy.  The best way to prevent infection is to avoid exposure.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyday preventive actions, including:

  • Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer of at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home if you are sick, except to seek medical care
  • Cover your cough or sneeze, then wash your hands
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

Older individuals and individuals with underlying health conditions seem to be at an increased risk.  Additional information for this population can be found at the link below.

Per the guidance of the Governor and the Farmington Valley Health District, we will be canceling all Town-sponsored events and events hosted at Town facilities that are anticipated to have an attendance of over 100 people.  This will take effect March 12 and will run through April 10.  This measure may be extended and/or modified as new information becomes available.

In addition, beginning Friday, March 13, all programming at the Senior Center will be canceled until further notice.  Exceptions include foot care appointments and Dial-A-Ride transportation (medical and food appointments only).  Social Services staff will continue to meet with clients, by appointment only; please call 860-658-3283.
