PLANNING COMMISSION – REGULAR MEETING

TUESDAY, February 13, 2018

SIMSBURY TOWN OFFICES – MAIN MEETING ROOM – 7:00 p.m.

933 HOPMEADOW STREET, SIMSBURY, CONNECTICUT

 

I.             CALL TO ORDER - Meeting was called to order at 7:01pm.

II.            ROLL CALL

Present:               Regular Members: Holly Beum, David Blume, Erin Leavitt-Smith, Craig MacCormac, William Rice, Alan Needham;  

                Alternate Members: Richard Cortes

Absent:                Alternate Member: Elizabeth Burt, Gary Lungarini 

Staff Present:  Jamie Rabbitt, AICP, Director of Planning and Community Development

               

III.           APPROVAL OF MINUTES of the January 23, 2018 regular meeting

Correction to line 21 – Erin verses Eric. Mrs. Beum made a motion to approve the 1/23/2018 minutes as corrected, seconded by Mr. Blume. Commission voted 6-0 in favor of the motion.

VII.         GENERAL COMMISSION BUSINESS

1.            Presentation by Tom Roy, Director of Public Works

a.            East Weatogue Street drainage improvements, pursuant to Chapter 137 of the Town  Code, Scenic Road Ordinance.

Mr. Rabbitt gave a brief explanation of the Scenic Road Ordinance and the specifics of Chapter 137 Article III, Section 13 B (Routine Road Maintenance).  Mr. Roy went through a Power Point presentation and explained scope of the project, including drainage improvements, tree removal and pavement upgrades.  Mr. Roy stated that their goal is to not change the character of the Roadway.  Commission members had questions regarding tree stump removal, Tree Warden’s responsibilities, time tables for work, maintenance of underdrains, pavement joint failure and overall programing of work.

2.            Correspondence: 

a.            Mr. Rice reminded everyone about the Connecticut Federation of Zoning Officials upcoming annual meeting.  He stated that if you intend to go, please contact the Planning Office.  Five members stated that they intended to go. Mr. Rabbitt also reminded the members that the CT Bar Association has their workshop in early 2019.  A brief discussion was held on other educational opportunities.  Mr. Rice mentioned that the next Planning Commission meeting could be cancelled, depending on business/applications received. If the next meeting is cancelled, the Commission would meet in March for a workshop/training/education session.
