Simsbury Police Maintain National Accreditation through CALEA

Press Release -

Simsbury, CT August 9, 2017

The Simsbury Police Department maintains national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

Members of the Simsbury Police Department attended a hearing before a panel of CALEA Commissioners in Providence, Rhode Island on July 29, 2017.  CALEA awarded the Simsbury Police Department with accreditation, signifying excellence in public safety policy and practice.

Accreditation is granted for three years, during which time the Department must maintain compliance with national best practice standards.  A team of assessors from CALEA arrived in Simsbury on March 20, 2017 to examine all aspects of the Simsbury Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, support services and facility. The assessment team stayed for 4 days and found that the Simsbury Police Department meets the Commission's state-of-the-art standards to achieve re-accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.

The Department received its first accreditation through CALEA in 2011.  The Department has been accredited through the State of Connecticut Since 2001.
