 Meeting Minutes

March 14, 2018

Call to Order at 5:45pm.

Cheryl Cook, Selectman and Chair of the Community for Care Committee called the meeting to order at 5:45pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.  The meeting was held in the Wagner Room at the Simsbury Public Library.  Also in attendance were Selectman Chris Kelly; Pastor Woody Eddins; Tom Steen; Judy Sturgis; Sue Homrok-Lempke, Assistant Superintendent; Sarah Gwinn, Karen Gallager; Amy Muska, Simsbury High School Health and Wellness Coordinator; Kristen Formanek, Simsbury Social Services Director;  Andrew O’Brien, Principal of Simsbury High School; Simsbury High School students Jayna Robotham and Anna Sennott; Sara Ray, Teen Librarian, Simsbury Public Library.

Public Audience: There was no public audience

New Business:

The committee welcomed Simsbury High School students Jayna Robotham and Anna Sennott to the Community for Care and thanked them for their willingness to participate.

The committee discussed material for the May 9th program.  Librarian Sara Ray will lead a book discussion of the book “The Seventh Wish” a story about a family dealing with addiction.  The Committee approved of the program as a kick-off to Prevention Week which runs from May 13 – 19.  As part of Prevention week the Committee plans to present a taped program on SCTV about alcoholism in older adults to be led by members Nancy Sheetz and Kristen Formanek.  Member Tom Steen will lead a Narcan training program for adults at Eno Hall as part of Prevention week. Another program on Opioid addiction and a presentation by the group “Recovery Coaches” was also discussed.

A taped book discussed for SCTV was also discussion.

Adjournment: Ms. Cook made a motion to Adjourn at 6:29pm.  Ms. Ray seconded the motion. All were in favor.

The Committee adjourned to the Program Room for the “Dangers of Vaping” Program.
