 Meeting Minutes

September 12, 2018

Call to Order at 5:45pm.

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Cheryl Cook, Selectwoman and Chair of the Community for Care Committee called the meeting to order at 5:45pm on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.  The meeting was held in Program Room Two at the Simsbury Public Library.  Also in attendance were  Sue Homrok-Lempke, Assistant Superintendent; Karen Gallager; Amy Muska, Simsbury High School Health and Wellness Coordinator;  Sara Ray, Teen Librarian, Simsbury Public Library; Richard Holden; Lt. Fred Sidodaskalakis, Becky Rosenthal; and Sally Reiger.

Public Audience: Lisa Gray spoke at public audience about her son, Jordan, who died of an overdose this past summer. She has started a new organization called A Promise To Jordon. Ms. Gray said the mission of the group is to raise awareness and funding for the treatment of mental health and addiction issues. She said the group is considering an affiliation with the organization called “Facing Addiction”.  The group discussed several options for Ms. Gray’s group to collaborate with the Community for Care.

New Business:

The committee unanimously passed the meeting calendar for the upcoming year.

The committee discussed the possible addition of new members.

The committee discussed alternatives for upcoming programs.  A program collaborating with the Simsbury Board of Education was agreed upon.  The November meeting date was changed to November 5th to accommodate the program.

Adjournment: Ms. Cook made a motion to Adjourn at 6:29pm.  Ms. Rosenthal seconded the motion. All were in favor.

The Committee adjourned to the Mindfulness Program.
