Historic Simsbury

Simsbury Historical Society: A two-acre site in the center of town at 800 Hopmeadow Street. SHS includes a special collection of 10 buildings, gardens and a gift shop. The grounds and gardens are always open during daylight hours for self-guided tours. Guided tours of the Phelps Tavern are available at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Thursday to Saturday between Mid-April and Mid-October. The Visitors Center and Gift Shop are open year round 12 to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Simsbury Free Library: Next door to the historic Simsbury Cemetery, the Simsbury Genealogical and Research Library is a quiet, historic place in the center of town (749 Hopmeadow St.) where you can research your family tree, purchase books about the area, or visit the office of Simsbury native, William Phelps Eno, who is considered the "Father of Traffic Regulation and Transportation Engineering." Hours are: Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the second and fourth Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and by appointment.
