November 8, 2016 State Election

The Electors of the Town of Simsbury are hereby warned to meet at their respective polling places in said town on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, for the following purposes:

  1. To cast their votes for Presidential and Vice-Presidential electors, United States Senator, Representative in Congress, State Senator and State Representative.
  2. To vote on the following questions to approve or disapprove proposed Charter revisions; a vote of “YES” being a vote for approval, and a vote of “NO” being a vote for disapproval:
  • “Shall the Charter be amended to change the form of government from First Selectman/Board of Selectmen to the Town Manager form of government to take effect December 4, 2017?”
  • “Shall the Charter be amended to make certain amendments to the Economic Development Commission to take effect December 4, 2017?”
  • “Shall the Charter be amended to eliminate the Human Relations Commission to take effect December 4, 2017?”
  • “Shall the Charter be amended to expand the membership of the Open Space Committee to take effect December 4, 2017?”
  • “Shall the Charter be amended to make technical changes to the Town Budget and appropriations process to take effect December 4, 2017?”
  • “Shall the Charter be amended to use gender neutral language throughout the Town Charter to take effect December 4, 2017?”

The full text of the questions and the proposed charter revisions with explanatory text are available for public inspection at the Town Clerk’s Office, 933 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT, and at www.simsbury-ct.gov. The vote on the proposed questions is taken pursuant to Simsbury Charter Section 1008.

Notice is hereby given that the locations of the polling places are as follows:

  • District #1 Henry James Memorial School, 155 Firetown Road, Simsbury
  • District #2 Latimer Lane School, 33 Mountain View Road, Weatogue
  • District #3 Tootin’ Hills School, 25 Nimrod Road, West Simsbury
  • District #4 Tariffville Grammar School, 43 Winthrop Street, Tariffville

Absentee Ballots will be counted at the following central location:

  • Town Hall, 933 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT

Voting machines will be used.  The polls will be opened at six o'clock in the morning (6:00 a.m.) and will remain open until eight o'clock in the evening (8:00 p.m.).
