GETTING MARRIED IN SIMSBURY?   

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! To facilitate the process, we have put together the following steps with instructions on what must be completed PRIOR to obtaining a Marriage License and setting an appointment in the Town of Simsbury. APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL MARRIAGE LICENSE REQUESTS. 

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION MUST BE EMAILED PRIOR TO OBTAINING THE APPOINTMENT FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE (please follow each step thoroughly as we will not schedule your appointment until all necessary information is received.)

1. Complete a Marriage License Worksheet (found as an attachment below). The worksheet MUST BE SUBMITTED TO OUR OFFICE VIA EMAIL- townclerk@simsbury-ct.gov. Please do not complete the bottom portion of the worksheet. All appointments will be scheduled (7) business days out from the date we receive the required information.  

2. Valid-unexpired photo ID for Spouse 1 and Spouse 2 (Driver License, Passports, or other photo ID)

3. Date of the Marriage

4. Name, Address, and Capacity of the Officiator (Clergy, Reverend, Justice of the Peace, Pastor, etc.)

5. Location and Address of where the marriage will take place.

Marriage Worksheet, Identification, and information in lines 3-5 can be emailed to: townclerk@simsbury-ct.gov. Once we receive your information, we will email you within 24 hours (not including weekends or holidays) confirming that we have the necessary information. At that point, you can call to make an appointment to come in. PLEASE CALL 860-658-3243 TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. 

Keep in mind:

  • A Marriage License must be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office in the TOWN OF OCCURRENCE (The Town where the marriage is taking place)
  • Marriage Licenses are valid for 65 days from the date of issuance
  • Both parties MUST COME IN PERSON and present a valid-unexpired photo ID

Our office can assist you in obtaining your Marriage License during our normal business hours. Our first available appointment is 9:00 am, and our last available appointment is 30 minutes before closing time.

8:30 – 7:00 Monday

8:30 - 4:30 Tuesday through Thursday

8:30 – 1:00 Friday

PAYMENT

The cost is $50.00 for the license and $20.00 for each certified copy of the Marriage Certificate which is necessary for changing the last name, insurance, ID/Driver’s License, Passport, etc.  We accept payment by cash, check, or credit card. (*Please note that effective 3/26/23, use of a credit/debit card for payment will incur a convenience fee of 2.99%, with a minimum fee of $3.95. This fee is collected by the credit card vendor, InvoiceCloud, and not by the Town of Simsbury.)
