Welcome to the Town of Simsbury Vital Records Department

Our office can issue certificates for birth, death, marriage, and fetal death events that occurred in the Town of Simsbury.  The Town also retains copies of birth, death,  marriage, and fetal death certificates for events occurring in Connecticut to persons who were a resident of Simsbury at the time of the event.

Request a Certified Copy of a Birth Certificate

The Simsbury Town Clerk’s Office can issue certified copies of birth certificates if:

  1. The person was born in Simsbury, or
  2. The person's parents resided in Simsbury at the time of the birth or
  3. Born in Connecticut in 2002 or later

For the protection of the individual, birth certificates are not open to the public in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes 7-51. You may request a copy of your own certificate as well as that of your child, your spouse, your parents, and your grandparents. Grandparents can also request a copy for their minor grandchildren with proof of relation to the grandchild's parent. Certified copies are available in two sizes: full size (long form) is an actual copy of the certificate and a wallet-size (short form) showing birth name and date only. Full size is recommended.

Already Married?

Once you are married, the marriage license is filed at the vital records office of the town where the marriage occurred. After the document is filed, it is referred to as a marriage certificate.

To obtain a certified copy of a marriage certificate, you must submit your request to the vital records office of the town where the marriage occurred, or the town(s) where the parties to the marriage resided at the time of the marriage, or the State Vital Records Office.   

Who Can Request A Certified Copy Of A Marriage Certificate?            

A certified copy of a marriage certificate may be purchased for a fee of $20.00 by anyone who is at least 18 years old. All information on the marriage certificate is available to the requester, except the social security numbers of the spouses. Copies of marriage certificates that include the spouse’s social security numbers will only be issued to the parties to the marriage. If you are requesting a copy of the marriage certificate with the social security numbers on the certificate, you will need to provide proof of identity that you are one of the parties named on the marriage certificate.

Request a Certified Copy of a Death Certificate

A certified copy of a Connecticut death certificate may be purchased for a fee of $20.00 by anyone at least 18 years old.  Note that the decedent's social security number can only be accessed by the decedent's spouse or next of kin. If you need a copy of the death certificate with the social security number on the certificate, you will need to provide proof of identity and proof of the relationship that allows you to obtain the death certificate with the social security number.
