Summary of Amendments to Tax Abatement for Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Personnel Ordinance

The Town of Simsbury’s Board of Selectmen has adopted amendments to the Tax Abatement for Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Personnel Ordinance (Simsbury Code of Ordinances, Chapter 141, Article V) to match the maximum allowable annual tax abatement for firefighters and ambulance personnel, as amended by Public Act 19-36.  The adopted amendments allow for an increase in the tax abatement as follows: for volunteers that have between two and five years of service, the abatement will increase from $500 to $750 for fiscal years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, and from $750 to $1,000 for fiscal year 2022-2023; for volunteers with more than five years of service, the abatement will increase from $1,000 to $1,500 for fiscal years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, and from $1,500 to $2,000 for fiscal year 2022-2023.

A copy of the Ordinance is available for public inspection at the Town Clerk’s Office and the Town Clerk shall, upon request, mail a copy of the Ordinance to any person requesting a copy at no charge.  The Ordinance is also available for review on the Town of Simsbury website, www.simsbury-ct.gov on the Board of Selectmen page.
