Simsbury Social Services Programs Include Seasonal  “Help Your Neighbor” Jars and Assistance with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Eligibility

The Social Services Department has once again placed 200 HELP YOUR NEIGHBOR JARS out in the Simsbury community, at banks, stores, churches, school classrooms, and with families and individuals as well.  You can help out by placing your loose change in the jars when you see them. The filled jars will be distributed to needy Simsbury families around the holidays.

In addition, the Social Services Department has partnered with Foodshare to offer Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility screening and application assistance twice a month at Eno Hall.  You may qualify for SNAP even if you own a home or a car, are working full time or part time, or if you are living with others. Please call the Social Services Department at 658-3283 for further information or to schedule an appointment.

Abigail Phelps Chapter of DAR to hold “Wreaths Across America” Wreath-Laying Ceremony On Saturday, December 14 at Noon

Simsbury’s Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in connection with the Wreaths Across America program, will be holding a public wreath-laying ceremony at 12:00 PM sharp at the flagpole in Simsbury Cemetery on Plank Hill Road.   Wreaths Across America is a program that honors veterans by placing wreaths on their graves. A reception of chili and hot chocolate will be held in the Simsbury Public Library Program Room immediately following the ceremony. If you have any questions about the event you can contact Angie Bautista at abautista@me.com or call Angie at 860-490-0105.  I would like to thank the DAR, our Library and the many others involved in this important recognition of our veterans.
