Simsbury Resident Brigid Cazzetta to Compete in Annual Irish Dance World Championships in London on April 17

In 2012, we sent Sara Hendershot to the Olympics.  This year, we’re sending  Simsbury High School Senior Brigid Cazzetta to the annual Irish Dance World Championships in London - the Olympics of Irish dancing. The competition includes the best of the best from around the world, all competing for the world title. In the United States, the top 10 percent of championship level dancers from each region, such as New England or Mid-Atlantic region, are chosen to compete.  Brigid, who is 18, will be competing tomorrow and we want to wish her the very best.

This year at the New England Irish Dance Championships Brigid was ranked 11th and there were 12 world qualifiers. Tomorrow she will be competing in the ladies ages 17-18 category and will be competing against approximately 150 people.  No matter what happens tomorrow, we are proud of Brigid for making it to the World Championships and for her decision to attend UConn’s School of Nursing in the fall.  We look forward to celebrating with her upon her return from London.
