Town Participates in Statewide 2014 Emergency Preparedness and Planning Initiative

Earlier today the Town of Simsbury’s emergency operations staff participated in this year’s statewide emergency preparedness and planning exercise which gives our emergency staff an opportunity to communicate with their state counterparts and gives us an opportunity to review our own preparations as we enter the hurricane season.  Appropriately enough, this year’s exercise was based on a category one (1) hurricane hitting the entire state and was designed with an emphasis on Mass Care and individuals with functional needs.  I would like to thank Geoff Giddings who filled in for Kevin Kowalski as emergency operations manager and our Town staff for participating in this year’s drill, which went very successfully.

 2014 Top Dogs in Simsbury

And now for the important business of the evening!  I am pleased to announce this year’s winners of the Top Dog contest.  They include Sherlock – a Bichon Frise and Shih Tzu mix who lives with Jason and Mallory Pasquariello – who was chosen as The Cutest!; Jax – a Labrador retriever who lives with Bethany and Jeff Davis – identified as The Most Handsome!; Chupie – a Chihuahua and Miniature Pinscher mix who lives with Colyn and Jeff Lent – who, at 7 pounds, won as The Smallest!; and Rosie – a part Thai Ridgeback and part German Shepherd living with Peter and Natalie Devlin – winner  of The Cutest Big Dog! award.   I would like to thank our Town Clerk Carolyn Keily and her staff for bringing some levity to the annual licensing ritual, and all of our pets (with their residents!) for participating as well.

Simsbury Recycling Committee Hosts “Let’s Talk Trash” with DEEP Deputy Commissioner Macky McCleary, Monday, June 30

The Simsbury Recycling Committee is presenting “Let’s Talk Trash” with Macky McCleary, Deputy Commissioner, Environmental Quality – Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.  The event, which should be very informative and helpful as Simsbury continues to focus on its recycling efforts, will be held on Monday June 30th from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at Eno Memorial Hall in the Youth Room.  I would like to thank the Committee for everything they are doing to keep us focused on this important ecological initiative.

Simsbury Farmer’s Market is Open for Business

I would like to remind you that one of the great Farmer’s Markets in the State is open for summer business!  As I’m sure you all know, the Simsbury Farmer’s Market, now in its 7th season, can be found at Simsmore Square every Thursday during the summer from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  In addition to a wonderful variety of vendors, they have a wonderful series of events including “Guest Chef” days and “Sims-b-e-r-r-y Day.”  Check out their excellent website at www.simsburyfarmersmarket.com, but more importantly, stop buy at Simsmore Square this Thursday and enjoy some of the finest produce you will find anywhere.
