Town of Simsbury, Simsbury Land Trust to Receive 2015 CLCC Excellence in Conservation Organization Award

I am pleased to announce that the Town of Simsbury and the Simsbury Land Trust have been awarded a 2015 CLCC Excellence in Conservation Organization Award in recognition of our work to preserve the George Hall Farm by the Connecticut Land Conservation Council.  According to CCLC, this was a particularly competitive year for awards, and they stated that the award to the Town and the Land Trust is “a true testament to the quality of land conservation in Connecticut.”  The award was presented at CCLC’s 2015 Conference on March 21st at Wesleyan University.  We received this award because Don Rieger made the effort to nominate us.  I would like to thank Don not only for the nomination but for all of the work Don and Sally Rieger do for conservation in the Town of Simsbury.

Last Chance!  Senior Center Tax Assistance Program Ends April 9, 2015

As we previously reported, our Senior Center is offering tax preparation assistance through the AARP Tax Aide program.  Trained volunteers will prepare and electronically file both federal and state tax returns free of charge.  The program is actually open to all residents – not just to seniors!  It is being hosted at the Simsbury Library, 725 Hopmeadow Street, First Floor, Program Room #2.  Appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, through April 9, between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.  Please contact the Senior Center at 860-658-3273 to make an appointment.  This is a wonderful program and I would like to thank Social Services and the Library for making it available to our residents.

Senior Center Offers “Dine and Discover: Financial Crimes and Identity Theft” – April 20, 2015

Our Senior Center and our Public Library are collaborating to offer a timely program on financial crimes and identity theft at a “Dine and Discover” event on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Please call the Senior Center at 860-658-3273 by April 15th to make a reservation.  With information theft in the headlines on a regular basis, it makes sense to learn what you can about how to protect your identity and your finances.  I would like to thank the Senior Center and Library staffs for putting this event together, and I encourage you to sign up for the event now.
