FIRST SELECTMAN’S REPORT
November 13, 2013

Swearing-In Ceremony to be Held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 6:00 PM, Eno Memorial Hall

I would like to invite everybody to attend the swearing-in ceremony for elected positions which will be held at Eno Memorial Hall on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 6:00 p.m.  While we are still finalizing the ceremony details, we thought we would take advantage of the location and ask all those who attend to bring non-perishable goods for distribution by our Social Services Department to those in need.  Come congratulate those who are committing to serve the Town of Simsbury and bring along something to help stock the Social Services pantry!

Plan to Attend Simsbury Celebrates! On November 30th

Simsbury Celebrates! Is a great holiday tradition here in Simsbury.  The Simsbury Celebrates! 2013 Committee has put together an incredible program with literally too many activities and events to list.  It has everything from music (including Latanya Farrell & The Bookman Styles Band, the Simsbury Light Opera Company and a Messiah Community Sing, to name only a few) to  children’s craft projects, an ice carving demonstration, pictures with Santa and a perennial favorite – the Gingerbread House exhibit.  Please visit the Simsbury Celebrates! website at www.simsburycelebrates.com for a complete description of all of the wonderful events.  The celebration starts at 4:30 p.m. and concludes with a fire truck parade at 7:25 and fireworks at 8:15.

Not only is it hard to name all the activities, but it is equally impossible to thank all of the people and organizations who put this wonderful event together.  I want to thank the Simsbury Celebrates! 2013 Committee including Linda Johnson, Carol Brown and Janet Calabro and our very own Taryn Rea of the Culture, Parks & Recreation department for their hours and hours of hard work to put this all together.  We are truly lucky to have such dedicated volunteers and employees.

Simsbury’s C-PACE Program Results in Energy Efficiency Improvements

Almost one year ago we adopted the C-PACE Program which is designed to provide businesses and multi-family building owners with access to the capital they need to improve the energy efficiency of their properties. C-PACE allows building owners to finance qualifying energy efficiency and clean energy improvements by placing a voluntary assessment on their property tax bill. Property owners pay for the improvements over time through this additional charge on their property tax bill and the repayment obligation transfers automatically to the next owner if the property is sold.

I am pleased to report that to date, the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority has provided close to $1.4 million in capital for energy efficiency projects in Simsbury, including solar installations and other improvements designed to help businesses reduce their costs of operation and the amount of fossil fuels they consume.

Businesses interested in learning more about C-PACE can get more information and apply online at www.c-pace.com.
