May 7, 2014

SIMSBURY: The voters of Simsbury passed all of the budget questions posed on May 6, and a total town budget of $91 million was approved.

Capital items, including the $1.15 million purchase of 42 acres from Ethel Walker School; a $2.5 million appropriation for roadway repaving, repair and rehabilitation; and $1.05 million for improvements to Squadron Line Elementary School, also passed.

The Board of Finance adjusted the mill rate downward from 37.29 to 37.14 resulting in a lower tax rate for Simsbury residents. “The budgets we submitted for approval by our residents reflected our strong commitment to controlling costs and maintaining a high level of service,” said First Selectman Mary Glassman. “These budgets made a tax decrease possible at a time when people are still facing difficult economic times.”
