Amy N. Meriwether Selected as Town of Simsbury’s Finance Director/Treasurer

At a Special Meeting held on Monday, May 21, 2018 the Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to make a conditional offer of employment to Amy N. Meriwether to serve as the Town of Simsbury’s next Director of Finance/Treasurer.  “We are excited to appoint Amy as our next Director of Finance,” said Town Manager Maria Capriola. “Her qualifications, prior work experience, and commitment to the highest standards of financial management make her the ideal candidate for this critical position.”

Meriwether currently serves as the Accounting Manager/Treasurer for the Town of Mansfield, where she has served in that capacity for nearly five years. In this role, she provides financial management services to the town, the Mansfield Board of Education, Regional School District #19, the Eastern Highlands Health District, and three non-profit entities.  Prior to her tenure in Mansfield, she was an auditor and senior accountant with Blum Shapiro. Meriwether holds an associate’s degree in accounting from Johnson and Wales University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rhode Island College.

“Amy’s years of governmental auditing and experience working in a shared services municipal finance department will serve the Town well,” said Rob Pomeroy, Chairman of the Board of Finance. “The Board of Finance looks forward to working with her as we continue to provide strong financial management for the Town.”  First Selectman Eric Wellman concurred.  “I could not be more excited to welcome Amy to Simsbury.  She will have an immediate impact on our municipal operations and she will play an important role in continuing our Town’s tradition of sound fiscal management.”

According to the Town Charter, the Town Manager consults with the Board of Finance prior to appointing the Director of Finance/Treasurer, and final appointing authority for the position lies with the Board of Selectmen.  At a meeting on May 17, 2018 the Board of Finance unanimously approved the selection of Meriwether as the preferred candidate for Director of Finance/Treasurer.

Meriwether will assume the role of Director of Finance/Treasurer effective June 26, 2018. She will work on a part-time basis until August 27, 2018.  Interim Finance Director/Treasurer Christine Hutton will continue to provide support to the department through August.

A welcome reception for Amy will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 5:00pm in the Main Meeting Room of the Simsbury Town Hall.  All are welcome to attend.
