Cell Service Challenges – Update

In recent months, Town staff, in partnership with the Simsbury Main Street Partnership and the Simsbury Fire District have been working to improve the gaps in cell service in town.  In concert with that effort, the Main Street Partnership issued a public survey earlier this fall to better understand gaps in coverage.

We have received an update from Verizon that the following improvements have been made to add capacity to the cell network: additional infrastructure at 995 Hopmeadow Street (near Westminster School); additional infrastructure at 781 Hopmeadow Street (center of Town); new infrastructure on Town Forest Road (near Public Works Department facility); added bandwidth on Bushy Hill Road for the southern end of Town; added bandwidth on Firetown Road for the northern end of Town; added new coverage and capacity to eastern Canton, and improved service in western portions of Simsbury.

If you are experiencing gaps in cell coverage at your business or place of residence, it is highly recommended that you contact your cell provider to determine the feasibility of using an in-home cell booster. These solutions often come at no cost to the consumer.
