Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) Safety Tips

In light of the recent cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in the State of Connecticut, the Town of Simsbury would like to remind everyone to protect themselves with insect repellent while using parks and athletic fields.  The Town is not planning on treating parks with pesticides at this time.  The first line of defense is to prevent mosquito bites by using EPA-registered insect repellent and minimizing exposed skin with long sleeved shirts and long pants.  In addition, residents are advised to minimize outdoor activity from dusk to dawn, when mosquitoes are most active.

The Town has consulted with the Farmington Valley Health District on this matter, and we have been advised that there have not been any positive mosquitos in our area or surrounding towns.
