Free Seminar for Small Businesses : How to Become Certified as a “Small Business” in Connecticut – Thursday, January 28th at the Simsbury Public Library

The Town of Simsbury is co-sponsoring a working seminar with the State of Connecticut’s Department of Administrative Services, the Simsbury Public Library, the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce, Simsbury Main Street Partnership, Representative John Hampton and Senator Kevin Witkos on how to become a certified “small business” in the State of Connecticut.  The seminar will be held in the Simsbury Public Library’s Programming Room from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on January 28, 2016.  Certified “small businesses” are eligible for “set asides” under state-funded contracts, increased contracting opportunities and many other benefits as well.  The program presenters will discuss the state certification process to be eligible for Set-Aside Access to certain Government contracts and actually help businesses to apply for certification. There is still time to sign up for this unique opportunity and I would encourage you to join us by contacting the Chamber of Commerce at (860) 651-7307.  If you have questions about the program itself, contact the Department of Administrative Services Supplier Diversity Program at (860) 713-5228.

6th Annual MLK Day in Simsbury Celebration

I would like to thank everybody who helped to make our 6th annual MLK Day in Simsbury the success that it was.  The participants are quite literally too numerous to mention, but I do want to thank The Henry James Memorial Select Choir and the Intonations under the direction of Greg Babal, readers from Simsbury High School and The Henry James Memorial School and of course the MLK Day in Simsbury Celebration Committee.  This has become an important tradition here in Simsbury and it was wonderful to see so many people, from so many different walks of life, at the Celebration.

First Selectman’s Open House – Monday, February 1, 2016 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm

On Monday, February 1st from 4:30 to 6:00 pm I will be holding an Open House at the First Selectman’s office here in Town Hall.  This is an opportunity for residents to drop in and ask questions, voice concerns and share their opinions with me as we head into budget preparation for the next fiscal year.  While residents are always welcome to drop in, this ensures that I will be available to talk with them.  Please feel free to come by this coming Monday – I look forward to seeing you then.
