Hot Weather? Stay Cool!

Due to the upcoming expected high temperatures, the Town of Simsbury and The Department of Community and Social Services would like to remind residents of the best practices to stay cool.

It is essential to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure.  If you must be outside, stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun as much as possible.  Try to stay inside where it is cool and please check on elderly family members and neighbors, and never leave children or pets in an unattended vehicle.

At this time during the pandemic the Town will not be opening a cooling center.  The potential of a public health risk is still present and our priority is to protect our residents from exposure to COVID-19.  In the absence of a true cooling center, we encourage you to take advantage of the many open spaces Simsbury has to offer, as well as the Simsbury Farms and Memorial pools (Memorial Pool is open Monday through Friday only).  Suggested open spaces include the pavilions at Town Forest, Tariffville Park, and Hop Brook Landing (the Flower Bridge), and taking advantage of places with good tree canopies such as the trails in the Ethel Walker Woods and state parks located in town.

For further information, or if you are someone you know is at risk due to the high temperatures, please call the Simsbury Community and Social Services Department at 860-658-3283; the Department does not monitor their phone line or voice mail messages during the weekend. For emergencies please call 911.
